Learning disability and autistic patients are being failed by a system that does not provide proper care and support. Without proper care and support these young people will not be able to cope, the system’s answer to this is to lock them up, in some cases miles from their families and community. Millons of pounds is made off the backs of these young people by organisations that care more about the bottom line than the welfare of those they are meant to care for, there are many examples of this.
On the 12th February 2020 The equality and Human Rights Commission launched a legal challenge against the Secretary of State for Health, over the repeated failure to move people with learning disabilities and autism into appropriate accommodation.
