Children’s Short Breaks

Short breaks is the new name for what is usually known as respite and play provision. It relates to all types of services put in place to give disabled children and adults a chance to take part in activities and have time away from home. This can take the form of the following:

  • home based support
  • after school play provision
  • holiday provision
  • overnight respite

To access these services your child will have to be assessed for their level of need, which will help to establish what types of services and level of support will be suitable. This will be included in your child/adult’s Care Plan. Please click here for more information about Needs Assessments and the Care Plan for children.

One to one support offers an array of individualised opportunities both in our centre and in our local community. Young people are encouraged to make choices and develop skills through a range of activities and shared experiences.

Through the use of individualised communication aids and person centred planning, young people are able to shape their own futures. These communication aids include iPads, P.E.C.S and objects of reference.
